On Thursday Pfizer announced it has begun testing healthy children between the ages of 6 months to 11 years old with their covid vaccine. The randomized clinical trial will include 144 children. With some children receiving placebos.
Phase one: determining the dose tolerable in children (older children get to go first.
Phase two: once tolerability is confirmed dosages will be increased for “further study.”
Phase three: evaluate “the safety, tolerability and immunogenicity of the selected dose level in each age group,” according to Pfizer.
Also If the child received the placebo shot, they will be eligible to take the real vaccine after their six month follow-up visit. Pfizer swiftly follows Moderna’s lead who began testing children under 12 on as of March 16th.
